In celebrating Hispanic Heritage, the kids and I did one of my favorite childhood crafts.
We made paper dolls!
I use to love playing paper dolls as a kid. None of the dolls I ever played with were my culture.
I researched online to see if I could find a Mexican paper doll(if such thing even existed) and to my surprise there were so many varieties.
I choose the following from this website because they had both a boy and girl.
Anarosa and Carlos are their names and they are from Mexico.
They also have other cultures. Feel free to check them out. They are free printables!
I first made the kiddos color them. I helped because I love to color. Little man was done first!
After cutting out little man’s doll I glued it all together and handed it over to him. He immediately started to play with him calling him his own name. I think he really did think it was him in paper.
Little lady seemed overwhelmed at first. She thought we were only coloring. Little did she know this paper doll would come to life. She loved that the doll wore clothes.
I talked to her about the different dresses she wore. Her words “pweedy mom”
Soon after they were done playing we went on to another activity, Papel Picado.
We made our new dolls the center piece on a line of papel picado.
If you would like to learn to make this easy papel picado
with a modern twist check out my post over at Multicultural Familia!
Happy Wednesday everyone!

Thank you so much for sharing this idea and site for your inspiration for Hispanic Heritage Month! I am currently doing the same with my kids as I am trying to expose them to new cultures, languages, etc and I’m hoping this will help with HHM and jumpstart a wonderful month of great inspiration 🙂
Thank you once again
