Some of the best childhood memories I have were the times my grandfather took all the grand-kids to Centennial Park. He would let us run wild up and down the huge hills of grass ( funny…they aren’t so big now that i’m an adult) We’d race to the playground but best of all he’d let us feed the ducks!
Before we left to the park, we would take old bread or bread ends and cut them up in small pieces place them in a back and make out way to the park. When the time came my grandfather would hand us each a hand full to throw to the ducks in the water. We spent hours watching the ducks eat. It was the best feeling to have them come up so close.
Driving into the park to go to the playground with the kids recently I was unprepared for the memoies that would race thru my head. I instantly had an urge to feed the ducks with my kids. I yelled to my brother, WE HAVE TO FEED THE DUCKS! With nothing but crumbs and pieces french fries (don’t judge us) I knew the kids would love the idea. Off my brother and the kids went as I took every chance to capture the amazing time they were having. The ducks got up close just like I knew they would. Little Lady kept saying “ducks mama ducks” Little Man observed with a huge smile not saying a word. I knew they were happy. I knew they felt the same bliss I did as a kid.
It’s been a great visit here in Cali. I enjoy the things I get to relive with the kids.
Feeding ducks will forever hold a soft spot in my heart.
Oh the joy of being a carefree kid again.
