We are kicking off this week with our first VERDE, BLANCO, Y ROJO GUB Week in celebration of Mexican independence day this weekend!
While I didn’t celebrate this day as a kid I knew why it was important!
Today we started off the week with a craft activity to discuss the MEXICAN Bandera (flag)
I explained to Little Man and Little Lady the colors: Verde, Blanco y Rojo and the symbol in the middle.
They loved saying the colors in Spanish!
I recall my dad telling me as a kid that the eagle was the symbol sent from the GODS to the AZTECS. When they saw the eagle on a cactus that this would be the place they would call home.
Little Man loved the idea of searching for an eagle!
We also discussed that Tijuana is part of MEXICO and that Grandma and Papuchoni are from Mexico. Little Man understood and said “uncle P and Nina lives in Mexico!” I said “yes they do. Does that means we have been to mexico?” He smiled and said “Yes.”
This is going to be a great week. The kids seem to be understanding so much more this year.
I can’t wait for all we have set up for this week. I hope you stay tuned!
Let us know if you are also doing something special for Mexican Independence day.
