Today we decided to go across the bridge to PA to some little place called Bensalem I had some errands to run and of course I had previously looked for anything Mexican in the area. I had mentioned yesterday i found this Mexican store.
I was really hoping to find real Mexican things like seasonings and spices, canned goods and my favorite junk food!!!
I wish I would have take a picture of the store front because they had your typical quince(sweet 15th) b-day dress and wedding dress. I sighed as we stopped I was so disappointed but decided to walk on in once i saw they had a Carniceria (meat market). Weird combo if you ask me.
The hubs and I walked in with Little man. I was so excited because as we opened the door I saw CHIPPPS!!!!
Lots and lots of chips. We walked around saw a couple of Mexican products none I was going crazy for. Little man was looking at all the colorful wrappings mainly this clown looking marshmallow pop. I stopped my self from getting it for him for a couple reasons.
1. We just let him have a taste of real sweets at some birthday party and realized chocolate sends him off the wall and makes him cry like hysterical I’m tired or this is such A huge sugar rush high
2. When i had them as a kid they weren’t that great
and 3 Well I’ll get to that as soon as I explain my shopping experience
Here’s little man gazing at the clown pop
I think he was asking for it here … I was a little busy talking to the lady at the counter.
So once we had that quick 2minute walk thru I was so disappointed.
The store had some products but not the stuff I was looking for.
and their meat area was EMPTY yet it still smelled like a carniceria
They had cueritos (pickled pig skin) but it look disgusting like it had been there for a while and not much was left. Needless to say I didn’t buy any.
When I finally decided to buy something it was my favorite chips. Chips I normally pay $1.25 for I paid $4.40.
Here is where the experience went down the hole.
The lady told me it was $2.29 so I got excited and told her to add another bag she said something to me and I understood PESOS (Mexican currency)
so I repeated “oh that’s what the 4.40 is” she asked “where?” I pointed at the bag as I handed her another and she says “oh wait nooooo, these are $4.40” I looked at her and smiled and said “wait what are you sure” “yes I’m sure this is a bigger bag” she replied and so I only purchased one bag…
These are by far little man’s and my favorite chips. We use to get these every weekend when my parents would stop by to visit.
The experience was lame. I wasn’t excited to show little man much more of it. I could only imagine how much that clown pop would have been which is reason #3 for not getting it. I was happy he got to see what he saw, smell what he did and hear me speak Spanish but the trip to La mexicana was not what i envisioned.
I now have my mom sending us lots of goodies which will be super cheaper then resorting to what the east coast has to offer.
This however, doesn’t mean this is the last of our search. Little man, little lady, and I will take on the east coast for another taste of home aka anything mexican 🙂
For now, we know La Mexicana is not something we wish to visit again.
There are lots of made up products linked to Mexicans. Hello just because something is called “Mexicorn” doesn’t mean Mexicans actually eat this… In example green giants Diego sponsored lol mexicorn! never in my life have i ever had this combination of corn with peppers or have I seen it served within my family. Little man will be glad I’ll never have him eat this altho i have a feeling some day the kids will ask to eat something silly like this just because their favorite character is on the can/box!
Spanish word of the week: subete (sue-beh-teh) which means “get on”
i.e. Subete a la cama. Get on the bed.
Happy Tuesday!
[…] chips on Earth no question! If only we could get these to come to the East Coast for a low price. Do you remember how much I paid for them in PA? It wasn’t anywhere near what I paid for them this weekend that’s for […]
