I hope this film makes it big! Only because it’s a story that needs to be told because I know one day my kids will be faced with such events of being a “mixed” kid that doesn’t fit in.
If there’s one I’ve herd consistently with blackxicans is that at some point there is a struggle of not fitting in. Its a scary thought to think my kids will one day be face with not being “Black” enough or “Mexican” enough.
I think as parent knowing your child can be bullied for something that is ultimately your fault, in the sense of having found love outside my culture, is heartbreaking.
In an interview with the director of this film he states that the “blacktino” was struggling in school to fit in and was only accepted into theater because that’s where all the outcast go. It kinda made me feel weird. Not accepted and being an outcast is nothing I’ve ever been faced with because even being the chubby kid in school i always had family around and i always knew how to stand my ground. I’d like to think it was my awesome outgoing attitude but i’ll never really know.
On the other hand i’m excited to have a film like this exist where a “blacktino” is the main character.
What are your thoughts on the film trailer?
p.s. Big thanks to my Amiga @textdrivebys for always keeping me in the know of anything black and mexican 🙂 love ya girl!
