Well it’s been looking like christmas since the second week of November to be honest. I decided to put up the tree early since we hosted about 25 of our closest friends and family for Thanksgiving. Also I couldn’t wait to see little man’s reaction. He didn’t see all that excited about the tree but the box it came in well, that’s where the magic was for him. He tried to help put ornaments and his eyes lit up so bright when we turned on the lights still he wasn’t to amused to mess with it. I guess that’s a good thing. Little lady is still to small to know what a tree is she occasionally stares at it when the lights are on but thats probably only because her swing is next to it. This was the ornament little man put up. I left it up just so that he knows he pitched in.
Moneys tight since there is only one income right now (I left my job in April and sometimes I second guess my self for doing it but i’m sure NOW it was the best thing for our family 🙂 ) so we kept the same decor as last year. I must say our tree still looks fab!
After the tree went up I let little man help me put up our Nativity set… that wasn’t such a great idea since we have a fisher price nativity. We decided to buy the fisher price nativity set because the people are all different colors. However, Little man thought they were just another one of his toys. Not the case.
For as long as I can remember my grandmother always put up this white porceline nativity right above the chiminey. It was tradition and we grew up knowing not to touch. Little man has done good since its been up too. He’s probably touched it a few times but nothing too crazy. My grandmother would always set up all the grandchildren’s by the chiminey as well. We never got those treats until the January 6th, el Dia de los Reyes Magos, the day of the Wise Men. I haven’t hung up their stalkings but I plan to and they will also get them on Jan. 6th. Just another one of my Mexican family traditions passed down to my children.
Last Christmas I asked my husband what his family did for the holiday. He basically said lots of BIG gifts, great food, and family gathering. I can’t argue with that! My family only got together christmas morning and that was while my grandparents were living. This is what little man’s first christmas was like. You can say we sure followed in my husband’s tradition of big gifts.
This year it will probably just be us Christmas day again. We decided to make it our tradition to cook a ham. My husband is a great cook and his hams are always delicious. The ham is bought and I can’t wait to eat. I’m also excited to celebrate with little lady. This year it will be 4 of us! Can’t wait to take them to visit with Santa too!!!!
