Surviving time away from the kids this far has definitely had its ups and downs. I’ve learned the hard way. I’ve been super attached to my kiddos. It’s really been harder on me than them. Daddy has turned out to be the Best thing on Earth according to them. Here’s a few tips that worked for me and may work for you next time you’re away.
1- Text messaging dad 345,909 times a day. This helped so much. The kids don’t hear your voice so there is no screaming or crying for you to come home but you get updated on what’s going on back home.
2-Have daddy or babysitter send millions of pics via text. It’s always good to see pictures. It made me feel like I was there.
3-Do not call 434,566 within the first 24hrs. Chances are you’ll be crying and so will they. At least in my case… and dad won’t appreciate having to calm them down every time they get all worked up. (Oops sorry hubs!)
4-Ask for more pictures preferably silly ones. They always made my day. It also kept me at ease that they were OK.
5- Keep Busy! If you’re away make sure it’s something that will keep you busy. The few times I was relaxing I found my self missing the family more.
6- Video Chat!!! Video chat has been a blessing to us. I did it once a day preferably in the morning before heading out. The kids loved seeing me and of course i couldn’t get enough of them. Though goodbyes were always hard, it did get easier.
7- Take pictures with their favorites. It always helps when you say you are out with special people and have proof. Soon they will forget you were ever gone. Yay!
Hope my tips to surviving help. I’m still away on my visit to California. I fly home to my little family soon now that Blogher is over. Look out for a great update on how amazing my first Blogher was with picture overload.
