I’m sure you’ve heard Walmart has been making great efforts to make new opportunities for their associates at Walmart. From pay raises, to training and scheduling, and benefits and social innovation these are all great opportunities for Walmart Associates. I love learning about great efforts made to improve Associates lives at Walmart. It’s important to hear their associates and Walmart is showing they are listening!
Walmart made a big splash when they announced Associates Pay raise. In February of 2016 Walmart strives to have a $10 an hour or more minimum wage where in April it was just raised to $9. The average full-time associates was making $13 per hour in April in 2015.
With a pay raise Associates also voiced their need for fixed schedules as well as knowing them in advance. Walmart is working towards associates knowing schedules at least 2.5 weeks in advance. They are also introducing weekly fixed schedules starting 2016. They will also have the option of seeing what shifts are open for those who want more hours at their stores. With that they’ve introduced a way to train associates in various positions with more opportunities to advance.
And because Associates have needs Walmart looks to meet their needs with health care, paid sick leave, and education benefits thru skills building courses. There have also been changes to benefit associates contribution starting on their first day to a 401(k) program. Walmart matches up to 6% after 1 year on the job towards their 401(k)
Their social innovations continue to help by investing in associates retail training to increase associates transitions from entry to middle skill jobs. Out of 15 million career pathways created 7 million of those are women in retail today!
I’m am happy to continue to share the growth of opportunities for Walmart Associates because these are the people I get to smile and chat with during my shopping experience at Walmart weekly!
