Mixed Heritage Week- Diverse Books For Our Children

March 3, 2015 Leave a Comment

#WeNeedDiverseBooks

I recently learned about the We Need Diverse Books Campaign and the amazing things they are doing to put diverse books in our kids libraries.

We Need Diverse Books is a grassroots organization created to address the lack of diverse, non-majority narratives in children’s literature. -We Need Diverse Books, Mission

I’ve shared often how important it is to have things including books that my kids can identify with. Growing up I wanted to see books with relatable characters, foods, celebrations. I want that even more for my kids. It’s important they see themselves in amazing stories.

We recognize all diverse experiences, including (but not limited to) LGBTQIA, people of color, gender diversity, people with disabilities*, and ethnic, cultural, and religious minorities. – We Need Diverse Books, Mission

This is why I support We Need Diverse Books and I feel it’s important and appropriate to share as we celebrate Mixed Heritage Week.
