Our Walmart Community: Service with a smile

When my family moved to New Jersey almost 5 years ago we missed what was once home. We quickly learned that the people we interacted with regularly those who knew our faces and our kids would soon become our community.

When I shop at Walmart I find comfort and community in people like us those that greet us with a smile! We frequent our local Walmart often and in honor of Black History Month I want to share how the associates at my Walmart have become OUR community.

From the deli, to electronics, to the cashiers we’ve needed the help of a Walmart associate and it feels good to see the diversity among the workers it makes us feel good to see our own. This is why when we are greeted with a smile and we are asked how our day is going we feel a sense of belonging.

One of my favorite moments at Walmart was when a cashier was just as excited as I was about the deals I was getting for Black Friday. She greeted me with a smile, we chatted about the deals as she rang us out, and she asked if we had found everything we were looking for. This was huge she made my shopping experience fun, fast, and comfortable. We saw her again during the holidays and we said hello. It was great to see a familiar face! We asked for her help about a product we were looking for and she went the extra mile to make sure we found it. Even though she was busy and she could have just told us the department where to find it she didn’t.  She serviced us with a smile, led us to our product, and instantly she became part of our community!

Finding familiar faces, being greeted with a smile, and going the extra mile for us is what makes our shopping experience at Walmart more than just a shopping trip- It’s our community! While Walmart is giving people a place to grow they are doing much more, they are building communities!

Do you have a community at your Walmart?

What makes up a community to you?
