When shopping at Walmart recently I discovered Nestle La Lechera Baking Kits. Lucky for me our Walmart Moms programs wanted us to try them out for Valentine’s day and I couldn’t be happier!

The Tres Leches Cake Kit came home with me that day and I couldn’t wait to make this mini piece of love! You see tres leches is really love it takes me back to my childhood and I instantly feel at home!

To make a Mini Love Tres Leches Cake here is what you will need:

Ingredients:
-Nestle La Lechera Cake Kit
– Oil
-Eggs
-Milk
This baking kit is only $4.98 at Walmart!
Also Walmart carries a similar Wilton heart shaped mini spring-form pan as the one i previously owned. They are cute and come in handy!
optional- food coloring -red

Ingredients for whipped topping:
-1 cup Heavy cream
-2 tablespoons of powdered sugar
-1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
optional food coloring- red

Let’s get baking!

Mix your cake ingredients according to the Tres Leches Cake Kit. In the Kit you will find Nestle La Lechera Condensed milk, Evaporated Milk and A cake mix. For the cake mix you will need the mix, eggs and oil.12447495773_bac7a066a5_o
Prepare your pans with non stick spray or lightly butter. Add your mix to pans and preheat oven according to kit, at 350 degrees.

12447495543_6b53d4b420_oAdd three drops of food coloring in a row and using a toothpick or any other sharp baking tool swirl around to make a heart shape.
Once oven is preheated, bake your cakes according to kit or until toothpick comes out clean when cake is poked.12447848154_ca576a06f2_o

Let your cakes cool for a good 20 minutes. Prepare the Tres Leches Mix according to kit- Mix together condensed milk , evaporated milk and your preferred milk, we used 2%

Place your cooled cakes in a dish at least 2 inches deep. Poke your cake with a fork or other sharp baking tool. Pour your tres leches over the cakes slowly.

Tip by removing the tops off the cakes I find the cakes absorb the milk faster.

Cover and store your cakes in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours.

Let’s Make Whipped Topping

Whipped topping recipe:
Now this tres leches cake kit doesn’t include a topping but in my home the whipped topping is a must!
Making you own whipped topping is super simple.
Beat or whip together your heavy whipping cream, vanilla and powdered sugar! I whipped mine because I like to have control. I whipped for a good 5 minutes or until I saw a stiff peak in my whipped cream. You will know it is done once it is doubled in size and becomes glossy and fluffy. Do not over whip you will make butter!

Add some red food coloring for a more festive valentine cake or just add sugar crystals.

Serve and enjoy! This dessert is served best cold and with a heaping dollop of whipped topping.

What is your preferred valentine dessert?
