Lately the kids have been really picking up the spanish.
One of their favorite words has been Amigo(friend)
We normally buy fruit, ice cream, or Sweet Bread from our Amigos that come by.
Yesterday Little man was yelling Amigo mom Amigo
I peek out and of course it’s a new sweet bread man but little man recognized he was an Amigo because of his basket and loud chant of Pan (bread)
He was so excited so i went ahead and told my aunt to call him over .
In the process of buying bread the man says to us
those kids are gringos right
My aunt looked confused and smiled not to be rude
I was kinda of shocked that my kids would even be considered that then again we are in mexico.
He said again you know gringos from the other side like from Washington
at this point i just starred and kind of giggled. This man thinks the other side of the border is Washington… maybe I should tell him it’s California!
Thankgoodness, so i thought, little man started going crazy again
“pah-pee pah-pee” thats all you can hear from him
The man said nooooo, while taking off his hat, i’m not your papi (daddy)
We all started laughing
my aunt said no sir he’s not calling you Papi, he’s calling the dog, puppy!
The man grinned, gave us our bread, packed up his basket, and went on his merry way.
I guess the embarrassement was punishment enough for calling my kids gringos.
Stay tuned for more pictures of little man and little lady’s adventures in Tijuana. The one above is only a sneak peek of what we came up with on a hot spring day!
