Being Mexican and living on the East Coast is not as easy as I thought it was going to be especially when raising little man and little lady. I go above and beyond to look for cultural things to link back to my roots in hopes of celebrating our culture. From visiting farms to see how my grandfather and his brother picked strawberries to even eating at local taco shops to get semi-authentic food.
I must say that the best way I’ve found a way back to my own roots, as well as teaching my kids about our culture, has been to learn to cook a favorite Mexican dish by trial and error. Getting the recipe over video chat from my tias and having the hubs and I execute with the kids kids help has been fun this far.
This time around I decided to try something no one in my family has ever tried to make. Pan Dulce!!! Not just any, I’m talking about the super yummy Conchitas that are chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavored!
While My family didn’t have to make them from scratch, because we always had a local Panaderia or people walking buy selling bread, It was a staple to any weekend with my family.
I can still remember my most recent visit to Tijuana and entering a sweet bread bakery bringing home over 10 conchitas for the family to enjoy over coffee and hot chocolate.
