Disclosure: This Buñuelos Holiday Recipe post is a sponsored post as a participant in the Walmart Moms Program.
It’s that time of the year! The time where family and friends come together to celebrate the holidays. One of my favorite childhood memories of the holidays was enjoy Buñuelos and hot chocolate. This holiday recipe is different than the traditional buñuelos because I made them peppermint flavor. These are great to give as gifts, enjoy at Las Posadas, or just to treat the family during the holidays!
A few years ago, I finally learned to make homemade Buñuelos and with just a few ingredients + Spanish video by LaRecetaDeLaAbuelita. Since them, I’ve added a few ingredients to make them flavored and the result was amazing!!!
How to make Peppermint Buñuelos
The ingredients are simple and you may have most on hand. I was able to find all my ingredients at my local Walmart!
You will need:
An Iron Rosette or similar mold
1 and a 1/2 cups of Milk
1 and a 1/4 cups of Flour
1 egg
2 tsp peppermint extract
1 tbs vanilla extract
Vegetable oil
For the coating:
1 cup sugar
9 peppermint candies, ground
- 1.5 cups of Milk
- 1.25 cups of Flour
- 1 egg
- 2 tsp peppermint extract
- 1 tbs vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil
- 1 cup sugar
- 9 peppermint candies, ground
- In a bowl, mix the flour, milk, egg, peppermint extract and vanilla extract until well combined batter.
- Add oil to a pan about 1.5 inches deep and bring up to medium heat.
- Once hot, place mold in oil for a few seconds.
- Remove from oil, give it a little shake and dip in the batter.
- Be sure to not submerge the mold in batter. Only coat up to the sides to easily remove your buñuelo.
- Quickly dip it into oil and shake. If it doesn't come off the mold wait for it to get a little golden and using a fork remove it from the mold while still in the oil.
- Allow the buñuelo to get golden brown on both sides.
- Remove from oil and place on a paper towel dish to drain some of the oil.
- Mix Sugar and ground peppermint in a dish.
- Once Buñuelo cools place it in the sugar coating mix. Remove and enjoy!
